The lesser known island of Molokai is famous in Hawaii for its rich history. Populated primarily by Native Hawaiian residents, Molokai has maintained its cultural heritage and sacred sites. In this video the legends of four sacred stones on this special Hawaiian island are retold and re-enacted by local storytellers.
The legend of Pohaku Hawanawana tells of a whispering stone that has the power to relay personal requests. The story of Nanahoa recounts the hard lessons learned by a lazy husband and his jealous wife. Both are turned to stone. Kalama`ula tells of the forbidden love of a princess and a magical stone that is engraved by the sun as a memory of her broken heart. The legend of Kalainawawae recounts the story of a prophetess and the footprints she carves into stone as a warning of great change.
Taking viewers back to ancient times when magic was a part of everyday life, this collection of stories provides great entertainment and cultural insight for all audiences.
