When I left in 1989 it was a toilet ! I lived in Rothesay for 10 years til the parents moved , now theres a lovelly place to visit a highland games.

One of the theories is that the name Greenock is derived from the Gaelic grianaig meaning sunny. So there you are. It is, of course, possible that it was so named by someone from the Fort William area.
Greenock has a strong Highland heritage. Apparently, on New Years Day 1876 and 1877 the Greenock Highlanders played against the Glasgow Highlanders in 60-a-side shinty games. Now there is a tradition well worth reviving!
