I am so glad you are excited about African Black soap but...........from what I here its not supposed to be black. I have some & it pretty much looks like cookie dough & its unrefined.

Yeah it's hard to tell, I have a cousin who went to Ghana and actually saw the soap and there are two kinds the one that is actually black, and then a brownish one, but they were both soft like puddy. I have this one that it is scented and it is rock hard so it's probably not pure but I like to too.

it is unrefined and unscented. IT has a smell, which I cannot describe, but it's not like dove soap, or like vanilla or peach scented. do you know what I mean? and no it definitely is not drying. my 10 year old uses it too.

The darker yellow shea butter has additives to give it a rich yellow look. Pure unrefined shea butter has no color and is creamy and smooth without lumps and coarse crystals.

Your Shea butter looks refined (looks too smooth to be unrefined). My unrefined shea butter is darker yellow, coarser, and lumpy. But shea butter is a remarkable moisturizer.

I got some from butters-n-bars and it doesn't sting at all, and I have sensitive dry skin.

It does dry me out a tiny bit though.
