the hole in the side panel was the 'choke' ? :)

The carburettor is very close to the panel and the air flow is a bit restricted. The hole is to help this. It also happens to be handy for use as a "choke". Makes the air/fuel mixture super rich for cold starting. You could use your hand if you had incredibly long arms!

Beautiful. Is the bodywork original to the car?

Glad you like it. The body is a replica. Home built with a laminated plywood frame instead of solid Ash. The dimensions are as close to original as possible. You can see what it looked like in 1969 if you look at my Oulton Park clips.
That body was home built by the same guy about 35 years earlier!

What about the suspension components and running gear? Are they from a Bentley? I looked at the Oulton Park clips; they are heartwarming. What is the attraction to driving vintage autos over rough terrain such as a muddy field? A friend told me that I have missed my calling; he thinks I should have "knocked tin" for a living, after he saw a few of the replacement panels I beat out for his Mercedes. Yours is beautiful, though.

Suspension and running gear all Bentley. Chassis is No.90 from the factory in 1922. I agree that the off road stuff is strange but the events are really sociable. All the family can take part. It isn't dangerous and doesn't require special licenses. Cars aren't damaged very often. These vintage cars are tough. Roads in 1920's were terrible. Ford Model A is popular. Small cars like Austin 7 are generally what wins though. They are cheap to run and can climb walls. Almost!
