Radio North Sea on short wave in 1971 with a station ID read by Jane Ballantyne & Dave Rogers. In 1972 the 9935 khz outlet was dropped and the international service continued at weekends on 6205 khz until the station's demise in 1974 as a result of the Dutch Marine Broadcasting Offences Act. In 1977 the shortwave 6205 channel was used again for English test transmissions when the Mebo 2 was anchored off the coast of Libya.

  • This is VERY cool. Grabs me every time.

  • Yep - impossible to hear Man Of Action without getting a tingle - and if it's not near the top of the hour, getting that old feeling that something must be up ! Thanks Radprog - great audio , great video. What a ship, what a station. Huge influence on my teenage years (and ever since !) Last I heard - it was a year or three ago - AJ Beirens was with a ferry company in Belgium, I believe. Try Hans Knot's Newsletters for more info. Nordsee Goes DX. Sundays on Shortwave from The Mebo 2... Sigh!

  • Man of Action still does it for me, all these years later.

  • Uit de goeie ouwe tijd van vrijheid blijheid perfect

  • i used to listen to that station in medium wave and short wave...whichever took my fancy. it was gr8 to hear it after the death of london and the demise of caroline, which was still broadcasting but by then was severely underfunded.

  • The sound of the "Man of action" theme tune still sends a tingle. I wonder whatever happened to A J Berrens of the DX show!

  • Always wandered if the spectaculair paintjob of the ship brougth radio veronica to the idea to bomb them.
