My father, his father,
His child, my father's half brother.
His mother, my father's step mother
My mother, her sister, her husband
His brother-in-law.I could never
Have imaging such a picture
But here they are for the only time
They all gathered in front of a camera
Looking a little awkward and posed
In post-war Germany.

  • @seedwine Thanks for watching

  • A bit clinical, if I can say that Andrew. You should have given us some clues as to why you 'couldn't have imagined such a picture'. The opening list is just a list, but after that the poem takes off for the second half which is interesting. What were they all doing in post war Germany? Sorry if this sounds overly critical, I just guess you could write something fuller and with more emotion - it sounds like a brilliant idea not yet fully realised. You can do it too and it would be worth doing!

  • @brychar66 Don't mind your comments at all, in fact welcome them. I think all photographs leave many things un-said, I too, don't know what they were all doing together there, it could have been as mundane as a holiday or a stop-off on my parents way back from Japan to England. I had looked at this picture for quite a while without finding a way into it, it seemed to suggest far more outside of it than what was present inside. It did then occur to me that it was that so many of my family members

  • @andrewnorris1 (part 2) ... were all together when I had never before even imagined certain members ever meeting each other. The poem came in a matter of a minute or two as I was just saying aloud what the relationship was of one person to another. I know it does sound a bit like a list but since the piece came so spontaneously i decided to keep it as it was rather than labouring further over it. having said that I might think further and perhaps rework it. Really appreciate your honest opinion.

  • Just ever so slighlty awkward! The sort of picture that makes you wonder what is going through their minds, in fact this one could keep me busy for hours ;-)

  • @PassionateMistress I agree, I often think that and the thoughts going on 'in the mind' is the subject of picture #4, must just finish writing it! Glad it kept you occupied I still cannot stop thinking about it. Good to see you here.

  • Hi Andrew, I'm sure it would be a great story to know how this picture came to be !

  • Perfect Andrew !! A picture can tell a hundred stories, but yours is just right !!!... You look so much like your Mother.

  • wonderful photograph..slightly awkward looking too...our planet is vast, yet so small too..people brought together +captured in one single frame...to form a connection? I can see very strong likenesses in your family...I look nothing like mine alas ! excellant ,thankyou
