I tried performance mode for the first time a few nights ago and realized it could be fun to make a few videos this way. And then this happened, and I was SO happy.

Song: Carry On Wayward Son
Artist: Kansas
Game: Rock Band 2
Mode: Expert Vocals Performance Mode
Platform: XBox 360

======

Q: What is performance mode?
A: It's a feature on Rock Band 2 where you can play the songs without a chart, rock meter, score meter, multiplier, or any indication of how well you're doing other than the audio from the game. However, the game will score you in exactly the same way as it would if you were playing normally.

Q: Can you collect overdrive, activate, etc. during performance mode?
A: Yep. If you listen carefully you can hear the sound effects from when you successfully collect overdrive, activate it, and when it runs out. You can also hear the little *ding*s that happen when you get new stars.

Q: How many attempts did this run take?
A: About 5? I sang the song in its entirety twice, getting 98% and then 99%. Then I had 2 runs where I kept missing the first overdrive phrase for some reason. Then I got this one. :)

Q: Can you FC other songs in Performance Mode?
A: To be honest, I've only tried this song and one other one so far so I don't know. Probably? But not every song, and not every time - some songs I could probably do without much trouble, but others I would need to practice a LOT. And I could NEVER get a Tangled Up In Blue FC this way - I'll leave that one to Billtvshow or something. :P

Q: Lol cowbell?
A: Yeah, I decided to try hitting as many of the cowbells as I could. I don't have them memorized or anything, but I've played the song a lot so I have some idea of when they are. When I wasn't sure I just tapped to the beat. :P

Q: Did you try to follow a path?
A: I didn't follow the optimal path by any means. Despite the audio cues, it's still a challenge to keep track of when I have overdrive considering there's no visual indicator of whether I'm even keeping combo. I also don't have all the possible activation points memorized.
