It is a piece of ancient wisdom that to philosophize is to learn how to die. From Socrates onwards, the philosopher is the person who has no fear of death, but accepts their fate with calm and contentment. Yet, how do philosophers themselves die? This song will explain and the answers are unexpectedly and darkly funny? As some of you might recognize, this song is also an indirect homage to Brian Eno. Taken from the show Sex, Death and Desire, written and directed by John Simmons of Ouch! Media and founding member of Critchley and Simmons.

  • This whole video could've been about how philosophers died. Pictures of you and some strange woman singing was uneccessary.

  • This video is part of a stage show called "Sex, Death and Desire" the inclusion of Critchley and the "strange" woman at the end are relevant to the show as a whole. BTW the woman is singing a Brian Eno tune called on some faraway beach.

  • I suggest the relevance of Brian Eno"s "On Some Faraway Beach" can be found at 3:30 on the video. Although the female singer does a good performance, my best guess is that the maker of the video could avoid copyright issues by using her, rather than use Eno singing it, himself. The song has been one of my favorites since it was released on "Here come the warm Jets"

  • Ther's a tiny clip at the end of a film called "Prospero's Books" by Peter Greenaway. I urge you to see it. It doesn't make anything simpler or easier to understand, but it's fun.

  • could you upload a version without you and the woman singing?

  • Aristotle did not die by suicide: he died because of a stomach disease.

  • My mistake. I'll look this stage show up sometime unless you could possibly send me a link.

  • wow thanks I did not know all of this.
