I recently visited the 1963 crash site of a Boeing B-52C Stratofortress. The crashsite is on Elephant Mountain, 6 miles from Greenville, Maine. The remains of the aircraft remain to this day. Learn more about the crash: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1963_Elephant_Mountain_B-52_crash

  • This is a Great vid of the memorial of those who died in this tragic accident. Freedom isn't free!.....But i'm puzzled as to why that nobody seems to know about the Naval plane crash that happened in Poland,Maine, back in the '70s......Ive been told that ALL were killed and i have talked to 3 witness's who were on the scene within minutes for fire suppression, and ive seen no reports,no video,no photos,NOTHING!!! I wonder why this accident is so Secretive??????

  • @mackdetroit4life I havent heard of it either...but a quick search says that it was a P-3 Orion, with a crew of 14, crashed due to wing separation. I found a site with all of the information. Next time im in that area I will try to find the crashsite.

  • Being that the crash occurred in '63 near the height of the B-52's strategic significance, I'm really surprised the military didn't clean everything out of there for reasons of national security... Is the cockpit section still up there and identifiable?

  • @LateNightCable I was pretty surprised too. I looked for the cockpit, but I dont think it is up there. There doesnt seem to be enough wreckage for a full B-52, and I know the engines were removed, since one is on display at a local snowmobile club. Im gonna guess that the government took out the vitals. Still worth a trip up there though if you are ever in the area.

  • @mackdetroit4life I remember it. I lived in Raymond at the time and rode my bike to the crash scene. It was a P-3 Orion and it crashed on or near Rte 11.

  • @CJpilot316 I have been told it is on Meguire Hill in Poland Maine.. Feel free to contact me,As i can get you in contact with Witnesses and people who were there on scene at that time.

  • Cool vid, thanks for posting

  • at 0.37 it looks like bullet holes near middle/back of fuelsalage

  • in the video i looks like in a pic of sideways fuelsalage/canopy pic it looks like bulletholes

  • I think they should have cleaned it up and just left a stone monument. I don't think the families would want to see that mess

  • This was during the cold war in the survival kits were gold coins be very nice to find those !

  • @EIBBOR2654 Haha yeah, same here. I had read that this guy was the only one, but im probably incorrect. And there were 9 crewmembers...all of the signs on site, and even wikipedia says it. There were crewman lists on a few websites I found as well. Not sure if it matters, but this was a C model. Thanks for pointing this stuff out anyway!
