Eleven year old pianist competes in Virginia Waring International Piano Competition playing Sonata in D major, Hoboken XVI:37 by Haydn. As a result of his performance, Master Kurz was honored with the Waring's first ever Bastien Award- a jury discretionary award given for playing the purest example of a classical sonata.

  • 2 and a half hours? Wow! Im in tenth grade and its difficult for me to get more than an hour and a half in with AP world and Algebra 2 Trig and everything....no wonder youre amazing!

  • Thanks for your compliments, olddisneymovielover9! It's difficult to balance school and piano, but I've figured it out pretty well. Thanks for watching my videos!

  • You seem to have worked very well with this. You show a lot of musicality with a sometimes delicate touch, and the slow movement has been carefully thought over and worked out - impressive. Now, what I'm concerned about is the way you sit at the piano. You sit too high and your shoulders are often raised which blocks the free movement of your fingers. You show lots of talent and plenty musicality, but you need to work on positioning and body movement.

  • Dear pian0nicky,

Thank you for your compliments and your suggestions! Regarding body positioning, this competition was about four years ago and it was difficult for me to control my shoulders while I was playing simply because I didn't have good enough technique to compensate for my lack of strength. Now, I've pretty much fixed that problem, although I do have to take note of it sometimes. Thanks for watching and sorry for the late reply!

    Sincerely,

    Aaron

  • bravissimo...absolutely love listening to you (where often on haydn ...I go "next")

one question though...don't you boil underneath that much hair?

  • Thanks so much for the compliment, tscholent! I don't get that hot when I'm playing, probably because I'm so focused on the task at hand (although it does get a little annoying occasionally).

    Sincerely,

    Aaron

Bien hecho :)

  • I'm glad you enjoyed it, lazimofo90!
