Animamix: a unique visual experience.

KNOKKE -- As of February 3rd Robinsons Art Gallery presents renewing work by young Animamix artists that only recently exhibited in museums of contemporary art in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Taipei.

Animamix

Animamix combines elements from animated cartoons and comic strips. The name is a contraction of the words 'animation' and 'comics'. The artistic trend originates from Asia, but meanwhile has followers all over the world imitating the style and ideas.

Stylistic characteristics

The artists switch from reality to fiction, using humour and satire. Their work, which usually has a strong narrative character, is exuberant and based on youth culture. Animamix therefore creates a new and unique experience.

The artists

Animamix became internationally known by biennials in China and Taiwan, where the works were simultaneously shown in four prominent museums:
• Today Art Museum, Beijing;
• Museum of Contemporary Art, Shanghai;
• Guandong Museum of Art, Guangzhou;
• Museum of Contemporary Art, Taipei.

Robinsons Art Gallery picked up the trend and managed to get the best artists to Belgium: Huang Yin, Han Yajuan, Liu Zhiyin, Yang Na and Mu Lei. Also the Dutch artist Janice Devali and the Belgian Olivier Pauwels are part of this group.

(Re)new(ing)

In Knokke Huang Yin presents work that has recently been shown at her solo exhibition in the Shanghai Duolum Museum of Modern Art. Also Yang Na and Mu Lei exhibited end 2010 successfully in the Museum of Temporary Art in Taipei. Han Yajuan, Liu Zhiyin, Janice Devali and Olivier Pauwels are prominently present with new and interesting work.
