The ATSF&SP railroad is an O-Scale layout by Gary Schrader. It is open to the attendee of O-Scale West every year.
On Jan 31, 2009, I visited the layout and took four video clips. In this second video clip, you can see an SP heavyweight passenger train, which mostly follows the consist of Owl -- an SP night train between Oakland and Los Angeles via San Joaquin route. The train is hauled by a GS-3 (4-8-4) in black paint scheme. Alhough this does not look as fancy as Coast Daylight, I think this is another example of SP passenger train at its golden age -- I liked this train a lot.

  • I would say that is a streamlined GS-6 if it wasn't in the description, could it be one of the surplus GS-3's that SP had during the start of they war? and great model

  • Very beautiful train! I love SP´s old green heavyweight trains, and this is the first video where I can see a black GS-3. Really interesting. And the Owl is one of my favorite SP trains. Like the Lark was the premier LA-San Francisco night train, the Owl was the premier LA-Oakland night train. May I ask you a question: how much $ was this train all together? (the loco and the 12 cars?)
