14" x 6.5" Walnut stave snare drum. Sound Check!
I ordered this custom made snare shell from Turning Lace (www.turninglace.com) and fitted chrome tube lugs from Liberty drums, and snare strainer from Highwood.
Please check out my previous video to see the drum being completed!

These are all small drum manufacturers based in the UK who make awesome custom drums and shells to your own specification.
Check out their websites for more info!

  • I want to start making my own snare, yet the price i priced out was about $460! for that price, i would get two very decent snares brand new! the lugs price were like $7 EACH! pretty expensive.. and they were the exact same ones as yours! where'd you get yours? thanks!

  • @Iandrummer071

Yeah, tube lugs are usually pretty expensive. I'm based in Scotland, UK, so I don't know very many suppliers in the USA. I have heard of one big shop in the USA called Drum Foundry, who seem to have some pretty good prices on their website. Give them a try, or have a look on Ebay.

  • amazing......

one of your many humble apprentices is curious.....how much for the shell and hardware?

  • @derwoody1

It cost around £100 for the shell, the lugs were about £40 and the snare mechanism about £20. I used hoops, heads and snare wires from another snare which I don't use very often. The best place to find all the parts is Ebay!

A solid stave shell drum would cost around £400 for a complete snare, so you can save quite a bit by putting it together yourself!

  • @Phrase would you be so kind to let me know where did you get the shell?cheers.

  • @maximusldude

The shell was made by Keith Thom from Ayrshire in Scotland. I'm not sure if he is still making drum shells, but I noticed from your profile you are from Australia ? Try Ebay (search for "Stave Drum Shell") and you will probably find some drum builders in your area who will be able to supply you with a shell.
