My laptops fan draws air from the bottom of the laptop, wouldn't this pad block the fan?

There should be sufficient spce between the surface fo the cooler and the surface of the laptop for air to flow there is a design on the cooler to make sure that its doesn't sit completely flat against your laptop.

Thanks, I also heard that it's like putting ice in water, and after a while the effects of the chemical will vanish when it has taken as much heat as it can handle, have you had any experience with how long that takes?

In my experience with this Product I can typically use my laptop for 4/6 hours before the chemical cooling effect wares off. However at that point it does still keep the heat from your legs just as well as a pillow or a book or any other "Buffer"

People, I wouldn't expect this item to be better than a table top. I think people here are missing the point. This product is for people that use the laptop in bed and other situations where the fans are blocked and/or insulation impedes the proper cooling of the machine. I would suggest getting this if you're that kind of user and a normal fan based cooler for table top use. Great review!

The initial temperature drop appears to be due to the pad absorbing the heat initially, but once it becomes saturated it's no better performing than a piece of wood underneath.

does not cool my laptop.. and it appears to make it slightly warmer than putting it on a table.(or a block)

@IamNemoN01 yeah i have the thermapak heatshift that's also a laptop sleeve for 15.6

and it doesn't seem to cool more than setting it on a table. really weird.

also the crystals in one side of the corner (the hottest spot on bottom of laptop.. where heat blows out)

never seemed to "bump" back up to allow airflow. like the crystals stayed liquid.

i'm not pleased with this product.

but perhaps it does not cool because it's also a sleeve and has an extra layer to hold laptop.

Here's my issue. By your tests, ThermaPak isn't cooling any more than being on a wood surface. So it only cools more than putting it on cloth. Because I built a platform that keeps my mac 2 inches off any surface - this produce would accomplish nothing. I'm plotting to get a mini frige (espresso milk cooler) & rebuild the tubing to run the length of the back of the laptop - then refill the coolant. This will run a laptop like it was on ICE - like in a controlled environment computer lab.
