6 minute abs.....

Just seen his new video on youtube called 'slot swing'. It seems he's changed his mind about the need to hit (or get very close) to these backswing positions. He shows how it's all about swinging through the so-called 'slot' position in the downswing, and how you can do this from 3 very different backswings. Not knocking him - people learn throughout their careers, and it seems his beliefs have changed and evolved.

this is a great video for those of you who are learning to play. This does not guarantee a solid or clean shot because it will take thousands and thousands of practice shots to replicate. I've been playing for 18 years and have a 7 hdcp. and by understanding these basic positions you will improve your swing and not look like a hack (as much) on the course.

the only position in this video that is important is #6 impact.

The fundamentals of the golf swing are entirely different depending on whether you are a one planer or two. I'd keep that in mind.

He didnt hit the ball because his 8 step video sucks.

I'm having problems hitting the ball in generally... played golf for the first time 2 days ago though

Jim McLean is one of the top rated instructors in the U.S.A and indeed the golfing world..he knows what he is talking about based on a life times work with amatures and professionals.

Positions insure nothing. Just because someone hits "position 3" guarantees them nothing but a nice picture on the fridge. A golfer could hit all 8 "positions" and still whiff the ball. What if someone wrote a book called "The 1,000-step Swing?" Or the "2-step swing?" How many positions are there? 8? A million? An infinite number! Alignments and their relationships are what matter. Alignment golf smothers position golf.
What he says makes a lot of sense. When I was playing a lot, I didn't know exactly what I was doing right or wrong, but looking back a few years later I do know my swing was very similar to how he explains it. Peoples' hands, arms, shoulders, legs, etc have different strengths & weaknesses, so he is being specific enough to get you on track, yet general enough no to be too complicated. The grip is a higher level aspect. Keep it simple and make it feel comfortable.

The secret, tilt your left shoulder down on backswing with 26 degree tilt and turn your shoulders 55 degrees. Watch you ball striking improve.
