Retro Review - Sonic R

Time for another Retro Review. This time, Matt and Ricky and, well, Don, kinda, take a look at the Sega Saturn/PC foot racing game, Sonic R. Is it good? Is it bad? Is it both? Well, you'll have to watch to find out.

With so much love that this game has, and mentioning Sonic's new 'Unleashed' engine is a success on SEGA's behalf, what would you say to a sequel for Sonic R?

tHE REASON WHY sonic is in a car is because if he was'nt, he would always win and finish a lap in a second.

It isn't the only Sonic foot racing game though. There is also Sonic Rivals for the PSP. Which I think is also much better.

@AdamantDitto I already have a decent story in mind:

The master emerald gets broken and it's up to Sonic and friends to find the pieces before Eggman does.

It'd be a good opportunity to make characters like Chaos 0 and Tikal playable once again, as well as the scrapped robot racers from the original.

Is it strange that I like this game more than Sonic CD?

I bought the Sonic Gems Collection right before I started college, and I distinctly remember playing Sonic R way more than Sonic CD, and enjoying it a lot more too!

And I know it's a bad game, but somehow I able to adjust to it's crap factor, and yet I just couldn't see Sonic CD as the "amazing game" that everyone calls it!

So, ya finally got to it... I can agree with the gameplay critiques, and your choice of Knuckles, and yeah Amy does really suck. As far as the "R" level names go, I never noticed that, but yeah, you're right. As far a Regal Ruins' turns go I just bounce my character of the wall. The music is, indeed, the best part of the game. WAIT, YOU CAN DRIFT? I never knew that! Huh. Yeah it's the "The Room" of Sonic games. Terrible, but fun.
