I had a few hours, before my flight back to Montana, and so I decided that since it was a sunny day, I'd go back to the Gettysburg Battle Field to see what I couldn't see yesterday.
The Battle of Gettysburg was fought July 1--3, 1863, in and around the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The battle with the largest number of casualties in the American Civil War, it is often described as the war's turning point Union Maj. Gen. George Gordon Meade's Army of the Potomac defeated attacks by Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia, ending Lee's invasion of the North.

  • David, Did the park have access to Little Round Top closed to the public? Either way the view is incredible. If ever you are back out this way again I'd make the trip down to show you around. It's my home away from home. ~Gary

  • @garyjd1166 to much snow and ice... so it was closed

  • David, I forgot to mention Lord Nelson's gallery in Gettysburg. While other Gettysburg galleries focus on Civil War subjects Lord Nelson's focus is on Eastern Frontier art by the likes of Buxton and Griffing among others. ~Gary

  • @garyjd1166 John told me about it and I did stop by it.

  • @garyjd1166 good info.. thank you for that.

  • @elementalchemy, Actually Colonel Strong Vincent of Erie, PA (my hometown) commanded the brigade in which Chamberlain and his 20th Maine Volunteers were a part. Vincent was mortally wounded while conducting a dogged defense on Little Round Top and died seven days later. The Brigade consisted of the 83rd PA,44th NY,20th ME, and 16th MI. ~Gary

  • @elementalchemy Maybe someday..

  • i'd love to see you do a portrait of him!

  • colonel chamberlain led the defense of little round top
