A BRIEF EXPLANATION ABOUT
THE BOOK OF MORMON

1 The Book of Mormon is a sacred record of peoples in ancient America, and was engraved upon sheets of metal. Four kinds of metal record plates are spoken of in the book itself:
2 1. The Plates of Nephi, which were of two kinds: the Small Plates and the Large Plates. The former were more particularly devoted to the spiritual matters and the ministry and teachings of the prophets, while the latter were occupied mostly by a secular history of the peoples concerned (1 Nephi 9:2--4). From the time of Mosiah, however, the large plates also included items of major spiritual importance.
3 2. The Plates of Mormon, which consist of an abridgment by Mormon from the Large Plates of Nephi, with many commentaries. These plates also contained a continuation of the history by Mormon and additions by his son Moroni.
4 3. The Plates of Ether, which present a history of the Jaredites. This record was abridged by Moroni, who inserted comments of his own and incorporated the record with the general history under the title "Book of Ether."
5 4. The Plates of Brass brought by the people of Lehi from Jerusalem in 600 B.C. These contained "the five books of Moses, . . . And also a record of the Jews from the beginning, . . . down to the commencement of the reign of Zedekiah, king of Judah; And also the prophecies of the holy prophets" (1 Nephi 5:11--13). Many quotations from these plates, citing Isaiah and other biblical and nonbiblical prophets, appear in the Book of Mormon.
6 The Book of Mormon comprises fifteen main parts or divisions, known, with one exception, as books, each designated by the name of its principal author. The first portion (the first six books, ending with Omni) is a translation from the Small Plates of Nephi. Between the books of Omni and Mosiah is an insert called The Words of Mormon. This insert connects the record engraved on the Small Plates with Mormon's abridgment of the Large Plates.
7 The longest portion, from Mosiah to Mormon, chapter 7, inclusive, is a translation of Mormon's abridgment of the Large Plates of Nephi. The concluding portion, from Mormon, chapter 8, to the end of the volume, was engraved by Mormon's son Moroni, who, after finishing the record of his father's life, made an abridgment of the Jaredite record (as the Book of Ether) and later added the parts known as the Book of Moroni.
8 In or about the year A.D. 421, Moroni, the last of the Nephite prophet-historians, sealed the sacred record and hid it up unto the Lord, to be brought forth in the latter days, as predicted by the voice of God through his ancient prophets. In A.D. 1823, this same Moroni, then a resurrected personage, visited the Prophet Joseph Smith and subsequently delivered the engraved plates to him.

9 About this edition: Some minor errors in the text have been perpetuated in past editions of the Book of Mormon. This edition contains corrections that seem appropriate to bring the material into conformity with prepublication manuscripts and early editions edited by the Prophet Joseph Smith.

I guess I'm just stuck on the fact that there is no evidence of the plates ever really existing except some things you need to take with completely blind faith.

Yes, to some extent it does take faith to believe in the existence of the plates; however, there were more witnesses (12 officially) then most courtroom trials have. Some witnessed the plates through divine power, others through mortal means. So, while the plates aren't available for anyone to see, some have seen them, and the promise is that anyone who sincerely wants to know whether or not these things are true can ask God in prayer and find out.

mormonism is a lie. Christianity as expressed in the New Testament is the truth and the way we are supposed to live. but the New Testament does warn us of this garbage you call your religion. read Matthew 24: 24, 1, 2 Timothy 4: 1, 2 Peter 2: 1, and basically the whole book of Jude. Matthew 7: 21-23 expresses it best though. I do beleive you guys think you're saved through your beleif called mormanism but the truth. well read the bible without adding to it and I'm sure you can figure it out.

I agree... with u amr. we can see some evolution on a very small scale... it shouldnt even really be called evolution, it should be adaptation. If one finds it difficult to believe christianity, then it would be 1,000,000 times harder to believe in evolution. it is soo impossible to evolve like Darwin theorized. creationism and the bible have so much true evidence that it is rediculous to not believe in it! but everyone must find the truth somehow!

It may be true that God Spoke to Native Americans, however, their personal experiences with the Lord is no more glorious than my personal experience or account of what God has told me... Should we write a book Called Jerrell then? I think not... God is still speaking today, shall we all write books? I think not!

I'd rather live amongst mormons than rabid venomousor non christ associated faiths or secular bankrupt narcisitic type because they are doomed to failure over time because they are defintly more wicked. Soory but it's true. So god bless and protect them regardless of the false teachings.They are just plain nicer and still more sane. It's amazing the amount if grace that god allows a devoted man who serves him who may be a little off in his doctrine.

There are no words above Jesus's.The gospels are All very inspired. The christian family unit is at stake here. Muslims lack the holy spirit. The fruits of its tree show an inneptness for christ like mercy.The Mormon church though false has a relation to the love of Christ. So now we face the fear of being true to God by giving him service and creating children for him with the reality that our liberal culture is failing our existance.How can we survive unless we live to reproduce and live right

The debate is still about our non mormon inability to stand for our belifes and profligate the as well as them. Both the mohamed and joseph smith have false angelic encouters. And the book of morman sound so close the the language found in jerimiah. But the problem is our in ability to stand up for our progeny as pure christians. Triming all sin and vice from our lives like these two religions at least proverb at puritanical creeds could be lived. You see if you believe in jesus.....
