  • with regard to flywheel kers, you are correct in saying batteries are a heavier option but the flywheel tech is more complex when it comes to design, safety and ensuring the flywheel is balanced so you dont get centerfugal forces when the car changes direction, i believe williams are combining the flywheel with the motor generator, this makes it even more compact and keeps down on weight. i dont think the kers should be limits to one push per lap but use it as much as the tech will allow.

  • @kingjimsixsix5 - Excellent comment mate re: centrifugal force, I'd not thought of having to manage that. It's a tricky one for the engineers to get right. Personally, I'd rather it be done away with but no-one ever listens to me (probably with good reason!)

  • @F1Podcast cheers max, well i did my engineering masters thesis on kinetic energy recover systems so i have a soft spot for them. i think if the teams are not limited in their use then they will exploit the technology to its maximum potential and push it forward, making KERS of more benefit for road cars. it should not be a gimmick on the f1 car "push to pass" but compliment the power from the engine, if that was the case then i think you would be more for KERS in F1.

  • @kingjimsixsix5 - you're right, I would be more in favour if KERS wasn't 'push to pass'. Technology wise, it's very clever and I see great benefits in a commercial respect. In F1 terms, I see it as artificial and a sad indictment on the design of many circuits whereby the constructors are held responsible for a track's shortcomings. Same goes for moveable rear wings. Just my opinion.
