AGDQ: Castlevania SotN race featuring Satoryu, RaneOfSOTN and romscout

Awesome Games Done Quick was SDA's 2nd annual charity marathon which took place from January 6-11, 2011 in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Over $50,000 were raised for the Prevent Cancer Foundation during the event. It was a lot of fun being there, and I'm thankful to everyone who watched the runs or donated during them.

This is the 3-way race for Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Satoryu's screen is on the top left, RaneOfSOTN's screen is on the bottom left, and my (romscout's) screen is on the bottom right. Satoryu won the race, I (romscout) finished about 30 seconds behind, and Rane did not complete the race but actually came very close to winning thanks to almost pulling off an OoB glitch to reach Dracula's chamber early.

Wont doing the death skip where you avoid him taking your equipment save about 1 minute at the start of the game?

@thegamezguy1 it's actually a big detour to do this in the game's default mode. You would need to do luck mode to make that skip reliable and easy (because you get big tossed instead of having to go OoB). It's more likely we'd do that skip now with how differently we speed run the game today (the record for the game is 20:56 now and has lots of OoB, compared to the record being 31:19 a year ago when this race happened), but back then it wasn't really anything worth messing with.

what is that skip that everyone clapped at because all three of you made it? What were you skipping?

@sambrea Normally to reach the 2nd castle, you need the Gold Ring, Silver Ring, and Holy Glasses. This allows you to see Shaft during the Richter battle and hurt him. However, with the skip we did, we went directly to the cutscene that happens after that event. Considering the time it takes to set up the glitch by grabbing the extra wolf relics, this skip saves somewhere between 3-5 minutes. Sorry the audio commentary wasnt as informative as last year, but the race was a bit more intense lol

oh i hate the trigger buttons on the ps3 too. they are so sensitive. you give then the slightest push and they activate... so annoying.
