I was so excited to find little baby Uarus swimming around our Uaru Cichlid pair. They had been displaying spawning behaviour for a long time but I never saw the eggs. The babies are being well cared for and growing quickly. Uaru young look completely different from their parents but they loose their leopardy-look as they get older. Uarus are similar to Discus in body shape, spawning behaviour and rearing their young. The babies munch on the adults' body slime and it seems to provide a good deal of nutrition. I separated a few of the young to raise in a breeder basket and they are much smaller than those who were left with the parents. At the end of the video, you can see the male coming up to the front of the glass as if to say, "Okay, back off!"
