Limits on eBay sellers In this article

Increasing your limits

Many members have limits placed on their account or on certain categories and items until they confirm certain information or establish a positive selling history. These limits help you become a successful seller, in addition to ensuring a safer experience for all eBay customers.

We have 3 types of limits:

Account limits

Category limits

Item limits

Read below to find out how these limits are applied, how to increase your limits, and how to improve your selling performance.

Note: Please keep in mind that there may be other limits that may apply to your account. Also, keep in mind that registering new accounts or trading with other existing accounts to avoid buying and selling limits or other policy consequences is a violation of eBay polices. Learn more about the proper use of multiple accounts.
Account limits

Account limits allow us to review account activity and confirm certain information from the seller. These limits vary by seller and may be increased based on your overall selling activity.

Account limits don't apply to the following listing categories and formats:

Business & Industrial

Motor Vehicles (except for Parts & Accessories)

Real Estate

How overall account limits work

You have a limit on sold items, gross merchandise volume, and active items for sale. If an item sells, it counts toward the limit, but if a listing ends without any sold items, it no longer counts against the limit.

You may be able to request a higher account limit by confirming your information, linking your new account to an established account, or contacting us. When you reach a selling limit you'll be given the option to request a limit increase. We may also evaluate your selling activity on a monthly basis and grant a new limit on your account if you qualify.

You may also review the seller performance standards. These standards provide sellers an opportunity to examine their selling practices to focus on improving performance.

How to find your limits

You'll be able to view most of your account-based limits in My eBay. Click My eBay in the header, sign in to your account, then click the Sell or Selling Manager menu link on the left side of the page.

The Monthly selling limits section shows your current selling activity relative to your monthly limits. You'll see a red alert once you've reached a limit, letting you know you won't be able to sell more items in the current month. You always have the option to request higher selling limits.

Limits placed on an account for failing to meet the minimum performance standards will also be shown in your Seller Dashboard. This module is not displayed if you aren't Below Standard. You will see your category and item limits when you list using the Sell Your Item form.

  • I just found a site called bonanza.com. They are like like an eBay or amazon but they only charge a flat fee which in a lot of cases is only $1.00, nothing to list just a flat fee. I am not certain how much exposure it gets as I just created a profile today and added a few items. Has anyone had good success with the? The low fees just blew me away, almost too good to be true and they take pay pal.

  • @aoenterstuff - you will sell more on fee-bay in one week than you will sell on that site in a year

  • this ebay user bravosixx was dropping docs on ebay. I tried to alert ebay about this and they got back to me 3 days latter. by then brovosixx had changed his account.

who knows how many people got their personal info posted on that public online auction due to ebay's lack of caring to protect its users personal info

  • @TheUnmaskedMagician - MILLIONS!!!!

  • craigslist is also trip'n like a mofo! they just changed it so you can't edit the listing every 3 hours to bring your ad to the top of the seach! also they made it so you can only post 2 ads a hour! ....so now i can't pimp craigslist! wtf!

  • @cycosteve2006 - I do not know how many email accounts you have but get your self about 50, grant you can only list a few things without opening an account but that process is getting me through the year. I swear they are asking for my phone number every 3 months!

  • The closer ebay gets to Amazon's way of doing business .. the closer ebay sellers get to selling on Amazon.

  • ebay has became so ridiculous, i don't even know where to start, i've been a seller since 2004 and i can't believe what i'm facing now. But what pisses me off is the lack of customer service

  • The Ebay seller performance standards have become too difficult to understand and I find myself in a hole with limited sales and funds being held up to 3 weeks. I live in Canada and get American folks rating my shipping costs as too high. Many American folks don't understand it costs more to ship from Canada to the USA. Their lack of understanding of Canada being a foreign country makes some think that me, the seller is ripping them off.

  • @Glendon007 now you're talking!!!!!!!!

  • Thats why local online classifieds work the best. ksl rocks for me . I never use ebay and I sell my stuff fast.

  • You are right on about keeping track of the money and taxes, if you don't have a tax advisor or CPA to to do or check your books you are headed for a world of hurt....I lucked out, and married my Tax CPA.

Never mess with the IRS. they win 1/2 of every lottery and never buy a ticket !!!

  • @Glendon007 I dont think they know what their Core business is anymore.

They bought Skype and had no real use for it.

Focused on Buyers instead of the people keeping the doors open, Sellers

  • @Glendon007 could be

he had the personal info of 5 different people posted on his auction page and that was just for one thing he was selling.

ebay went down hill over the years
