Following the overwhelming success, and encouraging emails I have received through the YouTube My Messages, of my "Isle of Wight DANGERS" series, which will remain ongoing, I have decided to launch another series of short videos: "ECO ISLAND?" examining the councils dubious claims of being "Green" and their even more dubious motives for making these claims.
Starting with:

ECO ISLAND? The three follies of Appley, Ryde Isle of Wight

A classic Isle of Wight council cock-up. The cost, both to the council tax payer and the environment, of installing this composting facility that is so ludicrously small it is pointless and unusable in a park of several acres, is a clear demonstration of how wasteful and out of touch they are.
This is ill conceived, probably the result of an overindulgent business lunch at the council tax payers expense, it isn't fit for purpose and even if it was given where it is situated any residue would flow straight down the hill.
It has been put here for the purpose of appearing to be acting in an environmentally friendly fashion and to impress the old boys network that awards Green Flags to public parks.
Note the token grass clippings that have been put in it,no doubt following orders from the top, to make it appear as if in use.

  • how can the puckpool battery be a folly it should be able to be a visitor attraction and bring in some money like the needles

  • The defences were known as the Palmerston's Follies as they were built at great expense but were never needed for their purpose.

Agreed Puckpool is an asset and should be properly preserved.

  • This clearly demonstrates that this council are not fit for purpose, to treat environmental concerns as an exercise in PR and to cynically exploit them to try to achieve "park status" is truly a disgrace....shame on them.
