Hey great videos and nice guitar. I was just curious do you put the black stain on first to bring up the quilted maple look? I was thinking of painting my guitar a canary yellow and didnt know whether to or not ?

applying the black stain and then sanding it off will make the figured wood more vivid and "3d-like."

cheers for the quick response :) so do you reckon i should put the black under the canary yellow? it wont affect the brightness of the yellow will it?

Just make sure you uniformly sand the maple first before dying black. As long as you sand much of the black off, the yellow should still be bright. Try finding videos or photos of this technique to get an idea how much black should remain.
