Herschel, ESA's cutting-edge space observatory, will carry the largest, most powerful infrared telescope ever flown in space. A pioneering mission to study the origin and evolution of stars and galaxies, it will help understand how the Universe came to be what it is today.

  • sweet, i wish it were more informative though.

  • Finally something right on time for the year of astronomy 2009, together with Planck telescope. However Herschel is an infra-red telescope, the images won't make too much sense to us, yet this is different for the scientists. However combined together with Hubble, Chandra and Spitzer, maybe even some telescopes on earth, we will have really amazing pictures. Herschel has saved the year of astronomy 2009 indeed from being a flop, many thanks to ESA and PACS.
