Disney / Pixar movie Cars 2 is set in many different locations around the world. One of those locations, is the City of Tokyo, Japan. The Pixar creators have researched the areas very well.

This video shows the Real Tokyo Inspiration behind the Japanese scenes in the Cars 2 Movie.

Song is "You Might Think" by The Cars. In the movie soundtrack, this song was covered by the band Weezer.

Breaking down the video:

1. In the Cars 2 Movie, the background of Tokyo is a modern urban City, with lights and Neon Lights. There are places in Tokyo which look like this.

2. In the Cars 2 Movie, Mater goes to a back alley, and knocks over a vending machine, and several cars are angry at Mater. There are places in Tokyo which do have this back-alley feel, and there are many Japanese vending machines all over the place. I don't know whether the angry cars is meant to symbolize some of the Japanese gangs, or maybe they were just angry at Mater's actions.

3. In the movie, part of the race in Tokyo included driving through a large loop, and through the Rainbow Bridge. This is a real place in Tokyo. Yes, there is a real copy of the Statue of Liberty in Tokyo.

4. There is a lot of Japanese architecture in the movie, including a Kabuki theme.

5. In the movie, Mater goes to a very high tech bathroom. This is based on some reality. Some of the toilets in Japan are very high tech. You can control all the settings of the toilet from:
Closing or Lifting the lid, Lowering or Raising Seat Cover, Flushing the Toilet (two ways), Cleaning Your Bottom with a Water Spray (two ways), Adjust temperature of seat warmer, Adjust Temperature of Spray, Adjust Water Pressure of Spray

6. In the movie, the Japanese chef serves Mater some wasabi (very very hot horseradish). In Japan, there are many chefs, but you only use wasabi very sparingly.

7. In the movie, there are Cars in traditional Japanese clothing. I present a woman in Japanese traditional clothing.
