  • @ClosetedSkeleton Thanks for your kind words. All the best , Guy

  • Hey Guy!

Nice one! I got a 00018MC too! Fab instrument but I'm still scared of it! Its SO new and hate to ding it! I stick to my 0-15 most of the time

    Cheers

    John

  • @johncoops I do love this guitar . I found it on a trip I did to Berkley Ca and a store caled "The Fifth String . Love at first note .. It will sound even better with a ding or two .. All the best , Guy

  • Hello Ranzo , No I knew none of the origin of the tune and had heard of it from Lou's singing, but yes the tune is the first thing that drew me to the song . The tune did sound older then the song to me. Thanks for the background. If your ever home come visit , Im in Litchfield . All the best , Guy

  • I love the tune, too. The text and the tune are indeed not fixed to each other -- I have seen at least 3 other melodies notated for this song, pre-1960s....that is, pre-Lou Killen's version, which may have helped really "establish" the link between this melody and the text. Also, you probably know this, but this melody has been attributed to another ballad, "Dom Pedero."

  • Great stuff , Guy -- well played and sung!

Hey I'm from CT, too :)

  • Hello gman I am one of those old timers who learns tunes by ear . This is in dorian mode learned from the singing of the northeastern english singer Louis Killen . The tune shifts back and forth from minor to major so its a bit dodgy in regular tuning for me though one can do it that way . If you do try DADGAD tuning you can very slowly pick out the tune and after a while add bass notes. Give the older way of learning a try . You might like it . All the best and good luck in your search. Guy

  • I absolutely love this song, and I've been looking all over the web for some tabs, and I can't find them to save my life!!!! I just started playing guitar, and I want this to be one of my firsts. any chance you could help out?
