awwww... poor thing. I read that the condition this baby has leaves it much more vulnerable to infection. It's amazing that inside that alien looking exterior is a little baby human.

The child has a condition known as Harlequin-type Ichthyosis, which is a rare genetic condition (both parents must have the recessive gene which can produce this condition). It usually kills the sufferer while still a baby, but nowadays many young people are surviving longer. The condition cannot be cured, but creams can assist in skin-shedding. The oldest survivor is aged 26. A young man called Ryan Gonzales, aged 19, is the oldest survivor: in the USA.
