I built a bike pushing trailer. There are some bugs to work out still. Throttle is sticky, chain falls off, aluminum frame flexes a little, geared pretty high.

  • that sounds like inside the fire by disturbed in the background. nice choice of music!!! im working on my own pusher and was wondering how fast your setup will go??

  • I have a bike speedo where you program your tire size to get exact speed. It tops out at 26.5mph on flat ground.

  • Nice work. Do you think there is a possibility of jack knifing with the pivot point behind the bicycle instead of at the seat post? I'm working on a bike pusher too. where did you get the engine? Are you using a clutch or torque converter? chain vs belt drive?

  • The engine and parts are from Northern Tool and Equipment. Centrifugal clutch with chain. I was concerned about the stability of the hitch, I didn't really think about jack knifing. Check out my newer video, I made the frame with steel because the aluminum would flex and the chain kept falling off. I drove it on a 20 mile trip today!

  • That is great! can you post video it in use? also could you post some photos of how it is mounted? what model honda engine is that? How many teeth for the wheel spocket and how many teeth for the centrifugal clutch? clutch model? On thinking of it I think this is bettern than the seat post attachment as it lowers the center of gravity. My plan is to enclose the rear tire from both sides with a squared off back. I have all the aluminum from tractor supply. thanks for steel frame tip

  • Engine is a Honda GX120 4hp

Front sprocket is about 14 teeth

Clutch is Comet heavy duty for $65

    Rear Sprocket is 60 teeth

Rear wheel measures about 10" diameter

  • @fairyheli2 You can buy a powerful electric trailer on eBay now. Brand New with a 1200watt motor, 20mph on 24volts and 30mph on 36volts.

  • @suz384 woah i never thought of that i have a 6.5 hp clone that i trashpicked in great condition but too late now i allerady made a chainsaw bike that does approx 25/30 mph it has okay torque to go up a moderate hill its friction drive but im pretty sure that has a tonne of torque

  • could i do this with a diesel?

  • Depends on the gearing, condition of the engine, even tire size and inflation. Horsepower doesn't have much to do with top speed as it does acceleration. If you gear it right you could probably get past 50mph.

  • Does anyone have any idea the speed a 3.5 horsepwoer engine could get a 145lbs rider on flatground?

  • interesting great idea

  • If you can put gears on it and you should be able to go faster than 26.5. I can pedal 26.5mph short term, but NO WAY can I generate 4 hp with my legs. 1 hp maybe in the most extreme pedaling. 0-20 in about 5 seconds (with minimal wind force)

  • I have a 6.5HP bike trailer, and also use the 10" tires. Try the Marathon Flat-Free solid Poly tires at Home Depot, and use Gorilla Glue to glue to tire bead on the rim. They wear slower than rubber, and NEVER to flat!

    NICE TRAILER BTW!
