The Vallejo Choral Society presents J.S. Bach's St. John Passion. Cyril Deaconoff, Artistic Director, conducts this timeless work by the great master, Johann Sebastian Bach. The VCS is joined in this performance by members of the St. John's Choir, Philharmonia Baroque, Bay Area Baroque Orchestra and the California Bach Society.
Soloists are:
Jonathan Smucker, Tenor, as the Evangelist,
Richard Mix, Bass, as Jesus
Claudia Berman, Soprano, as Ancilla,
Trey Costerisan, Tenor, as Servus,
Estelle Mays, Alto, and
Dean Ahlberg, Bass, as Peter and Pontius Pilate.
The concert was performed at the First Presbyterian Church in Vallejo on May 28, 2011. Unfortunately the video cuts off during the penultimate number in the piece because the camera ran out of video tape. Such are the perils of amateur, un-tended video. Enjoy!
He had a nice performance down here too. While the orchestra and soloists were good, the chorus had a very weak male section.
