I'm not sure if you've had much off-road experience in a "traditional" 4x4, but these later Rovers need to be driven another way. You need to stay in the gas a bit to give the traction control computer to do its job. I'm sure you can do it all with skill, but you need not with these things. Stay in it, give it a chance and it should move the vehicle forward just fine.
