@ztbsk8er John Mayer is good, Clapton is a legend. There's really no discussion. It's like comparing an artist nowadays to someone who has done it to someone who has done it there whole life. Lil Wayne is to Biggie as John Mayer is to Clapton.

I can't believe I take time to read the comments. They are always filled with total ignorance as everyone bashes one musician or the other.
Deciding who is "better" is a person's opinion, not an irreversible fact for the whole world, holy shit!
And as far as stealing licks goes.. Are you kidding me? Each and every guitarist has been influenced by a guitarist they look up to. There's bound to be some overlap in styles. You can't copyright a lick.
