Mayer's solo make me want to pick up my guitar and practice, Clapton's solo make me want to put my guitar on ebay.

Y're right, John Mayer is a serious player, world best copycat of Stevie Ray Vaughan ;)

Also I think Clapton is the greatest pure and natural blues guitarist I've ever seen or heard and maybe SRV who I was lucky to see a couple dozen times when I lived in Austin in late 70's! But Mayer??? Not even in the same Stratosphere! Just Strats!

Unfortunately the only way to compare Mayer to Clapton is to wait until Mayer is 68 yrs old and then compare the paths and albums! Right now trying to compare Mayer to EC is purely one of the funniest things I've heard in ages and I've been a Pro guitarist for over 40 yrs! Not that Mayer isn't a great guitarist at all its just this comparing thing is so out of hand and of course theres just no comparison!

Clapton Mr Legend! doesn't seem to care much about playing in this video (Ask any famous guitarist how phenominal that Crossroads solo is in 68 and how it sounds even better today and theres so much to be said for just that alone!) And lastly: "Never compare any guitarist with a guitar legend especially the #1 legend of them all Mr. Eric Clapton (Who by the way didn't even look all that interested in playing his solos out of respect for Mayer! Thats also class!

This vid is for all people who say that mayer is not legit. He may not have grown up in the Mississippi Delta, but neither did Jimi or SRV. JM is a serious player.

For those comparing the two and their stage presence, dot forget clapton has 30 plus years on John and owns this song. Both are prodigious players. We don't even know if Mayer is done getting better and eric has already peaked. I think this bodes well for mayer and blues fans in general. If mayer wasn't considered a college rocker by close minded people he could be a real gift to everyone who loves blues.
