The 3 streetcars owned by the District of Columbia are almost home. They arrived by ship in Baltimore this weekend. They were off-loaded, then cleared customs. Today (December 15, 2009) at the port, the vehicles were transferred by crane from shipping skids to flatbed trucks. Now they are ready for the last leg of their journey to Metro's Greenbelt Yard where they will be stored and maintained until the first streetcar line is operational in DC.

It will take a few weeks to get the streetcars ready for their public debut, but soon as we can we will invite residents to come see one for themselves. For more information about the streetcar program please visit http://www.ddot.dc.gov/dcstreetcar.
