On November 18th-20th representatives from our partners gathered to discuss opportunities and challenges ahead for immunizations. A new impact study released at the forum stated that by the end of 2009 256 million children have been vaccinated and 4 million deaths were prevented.
Over one hundred million people will lose their homes if ocean levels rise by only one meter. Over thirty percent of the world's population are already refugees. We need to turn the deserts green, raise the water table in the world's deserts as a buffer to rising ocean levels.

I suspect that the will to immunize and feed the poorest people will profoundly increase once we begin to realize that rising ocean levels is almost certainly the most immediate threat posed by climate change.
Investment in aquaculture and greening the deserts may be the best short term response to climate change. Altering the monetary policy so that one billion poor people become a market for food could finance the project.
