  • @TheBearcat2006 Depends on where you work as there is much variation due to the location/type of facility. Many labs are like factories with a never-ending constant flow of work - like large reference labs. Very small rural labs may have a total lab staff of fewer than 12 while large urban medical centers may be staffed by well over 100 total. Salary varies by site as well. Most places start way too low so aim high. Go to ASCP, Advance for Laboratory Professionals, or payscale.com for more.

  • @sickb2200 Im starting my training this summer. What is work like (fast pace or steady), what is the expected salary after graduation (4 year degree)?

  • Med Techs are in high demand right now and have been for some time. Job security is excellent - never a shortage of patients. If you don't want the worry of lay offs or relocating your job overseas, then this is a great way to protect yourself from an uncertain economy. Benefits packages are usually not stellar, but include 401K matching and good health insurance. Plus, work is available everywhere. Downside - Not much room for advancement in most labs and the payscales need an overhaul.

  • this is what they said about nursing... look at it now

  • Thank you, all I can say
