The United States has grounded its fleet of Boeing Dreamliners, as have aviation regulators in Europe, India and Japan, after an apparent battery problem forced one of All Nippon Airways' (ANA) jets to make an emergency landing on Wednesday.

The plane landed safely in Takamatsu, and all 137 passengers and crew were evacuated using the emergency slides, according to the airline. Several people were slightly injured during the evacuations.

Al Jazeera's John Terrett reports from Washington DC.

That's right. So, on the one hand, you could say this is 'just' a problem with the batteries. On the other hand, the batteries now run the entire plane. I hope Boeing can fix this. The last thing we need is A380's with wing cracks AND Dreamliners with exploding batteries. Did I mention that I love trains? O_O

with the 787, they replaced most of the hydraulics and compressed air actuators with electrical ones that are powered by lithium ion batteries

Air travel is awful anymore. If it's not problems with the planes & it's dealing with the TSA groping the public.

Actually you comment is the most intelligent here… these batteries suffer from manufacturing difficulties i.e. cheap stupid labor and engineers that are… well let’s just say they passed all their tests after they left the grass hut they lived in.
