In 2005, NASA created the Ares Projects Office as part of the Constellation Program to develop new launch vehicles to take crews and cargo to Earth orbit, the Moon, and beyond.
The Ares Projects leverage fifty years of space transportation design experience and hardware to provide America once again with the space exploration capability it needs to move beyond Earths orbit.
This video provides an overview of all the tremendous progress made by the Ares team during its first three years of work on America's next generation launch vehicles.

No offense to anyone working on this project. I just think its a bad idea using solid rocket fuel as a first stage and making a complicated second stage and complicated crew escape system to compensate for the first stage. I wish we could take the Titan II first stage and upgrade the second stage on it .

Will the Ares rockets be cheaper than the Space Shuttle?
