Down at the swatara creek 7-14-10

Went to check out the high water from the past couple days of rain. This is at Swatara Creek Park in Union Deposit, South Hanover Township, PA.

first off let me say a kayak wouldn't make it over and out of that wash at the dam and 2nd is that the dam just down stream from 39 or is there another dam between that one and the susquehanna river I've kayaked from swatara state park near pinegrove down to the low head dam at 39 and this want to go all the way to the launch at the river but need some info help to avoid death by low head dams if there are any downstream of the one by rt 39 in Hershey.

@cuttingman423 You could get out of the creek just upstream from the 39 bridge, and there is a path along the north side of the creek that you can follow, then put back in the water below the dam.

There are remains of a dam at Hummelstown just before the Duke St bridge, but it is easily passable in all but the lowest of water. There is one more damn right before Middletown, just downstream of the turnpike bridge.

I saw there is someone buried in the Union Deposit cemetery with the name Shifflet that lived to 107 years, are you a relation to them?

@LDPosse I get out right at the building at the dam below 39 and walk around that side. Thanks for the info on the other dam down stream it's greatly appreciated hoping to kayak all the way to Middletown this year

"Theres some pretty serious water going over the old DARN today," haha that was nice! Thats crazy how high that creek is though, just the other day we were way down in there taking pics from the center of the creek.
