Rathbone could do anything! I love it. I did not realize it was Rathbone the first time I saw this movie. People don't appreciate his versatility enough these days because Sherlock Holmes and all those great swashbuckling villains. But the man could act and he loved to do comedy.

I did not know at the time that it was Basil Rathbone!
What a brilliant Actor he was!!

I think the only actor who could have played a Moriarty worthy of Rathbone's Holmes in every sense would have to have been.....Basil Rathbone himself. (That's not to put down the actor who played Moriarty in this film, but Rathbone was an exceptional talent.)

I remember the very first time I saw that movie. I thought it was a totally different actor. Such was the diversity of Rathbone. Aah. Cinema lost a great man when he passed away. Never again shall we see such skill on the screen.

now THIS is entertainment! I remember first watching this wondering if it was Basil. It's truly one of the film, even the series! I bet he had a lot of fun doing that scene! And once I realized it was him I laughed so hard I fell on the floor.... quite hilarious.

The delightful scene appears in the film without clueing the viewer as to who the entertainer is and when the sequence ends, that fact is startlingly revealed -- also revealing the multiple acting talents of Basil Rathbone. Great film! (Haunting flute music in it too.)

Along with being in the movies, he also starred in the Sherlock Holmes radio show during this same period and would occasionally sing this song.
