  • It was a pulley launcher with customized pulleys. Design maximized potential energy. Most critical part was the string that we obtained that did not stretch.

  • The wheels had rubber bands on them to reduce some skidding. Skidding was calibrated into the distances since it was pretty consistent. On this car, wingnut breaks on both wheels were used. The following year a combination of wingnut breaks and drop breaks were used to eliminate skidding.

  • wow. it hit the wall but didnt break! whoa. my friend and i r doing the same project for our team and we r studying designs, this one has some nice ideas.

  • Simple is always good. We spent a lot of time with the kids to reduce friction and maximize potential energy. This year, we spent more time on the breaking system to eliminate skidding.

  • This years San Diego regionals, we took 1,3,6,8 and 12th place out of 50 schools. All our systems were under 3.8s for 8.5m. Only one other school had a time of 3.8, all others were 4+. All were basically the same structure (aluminum center beam with axials). Next year we will probably go with something that is easier to align since 2009 rules require the car to come to the center of the wall.

  • but you hit the wall....

  • That's the funny part. It hit the wall, but the 2007-08 rules allowed for hitting the wall as long has the egg did not leak for about 5 seconds. The egg did not leak, so the judges allowed it as a good run. It was not until after the state competition that the judges reversed their decision and invalidated the run. The team had no recourse since their changed decision was done behind closed doors. The team came in 5th instead of the 1st place position.

  • How did you avoid skidding of the wheels?

did you use the wingnut breaking mechanism?

  • Doing the same thing this year

  • @kikyosai We are doing a school project on scrambler right now and we are stuck on how to make wheels... I will appreciate it very much if you are willing to provide some info.

  • @jteg01

where and how did you guys get these wheels?

  • Where did you obtain those wheels or did you make them?

  • wat breaking system did u use??

  • Drop weight attached to a pull string with 2 pulleys.
