This is one of those film endings that sticks with you, months and years after you watch it. The desolate architecture, the music, the cinematography, and all the minute detail of contained emotion in his face and body language...as haunting and beautiful as it gets.

I've never felt so melancholy at the end of a film before. you just want to see him and her back together and this forever changes his life for the worse. In 2046 you get the sense that he isnt the man he wants to be and never can be. heartbreaking.
