  • The strange music is "Remember When..." I thought it fit! The sound system is an onboard air compressor powering an authentic PE whistle -- on the prototype at Orange Empire Railway Museum in Perris, CA. The sound was recorded and then dubbed on to the video.

  • The PE Tens, 950's and the Hollywood are kitbashes from Bachmann passenger cars, and the blimp is a modified Aristo heavyweight coach. All are plastic. More recently, I have built a PE 1600 class locomotive from an old LGB passenger car, as well as modifying a Hartland PE Birney. There is another person who scratchbuilt a wood PE Ten that occasionally shows up on the layout.

  • I'm into "G" scale myself. I love the P.E. models and the layout is nice too. I also love the horn and sound effects. But where is the overhead trolley wire? That would really make it complete.

  • At Fairplex, we were concerned about people tripping over the overhead trolley wire, so it has to exist only in our imaginations.

  • what sound system is in those?

  • What's with the strange music?

  • Great looking layout. Are all these models plastic? I remember an all wood PE car there a long time ago, I think it was a PE 10 series.

  • What is the music called?

  • Bitchin'!

Growing up in the SGV in the 70's, the model trains at the fair were always truly fascinating for me. Thanks to all!

  • Very nice models! For those who insist on overhead, I suggest (seriously) you do the following: put a flatcar with a mast in front, followed by a couple of trolleys and another flat with mast. String a wire between the masts! It would be good fun and deal a gentle "shut-up" to the pointers and laughers!
