WARNING: This report contains graphic & offensive stereotypes of African Americans. This report examines mechanical banks (1850's-1950's), and how many depicted racially offensive stereotypes of African Americans. The report discusses how these banks became a mirror for the bigotry of white & predominantly southern americans in the decades since the Emancipation Proclamation. It also probes why these devices have become collectors items in modern America.

  • I cant believe those old banks are worth so much, thats nuts!!!

  • I have a Jolly Niger bank ive compared to others and am certain the value to be $700 plus. Other than E bay id like to mail photos of my N or take it somewhere local to really find out. If Ron Paul gets elected will my niger go up in value?

  • i laugh at the news people who had to warn people of seeing the banks. I am disappointed in people if they think it is offensive

  • Who really cares? I use words that anger stupid people. I'm glad so many people give my words so much power. If people stop being offended by silly words then they will take away power from words.

  • when America was SAVING instead of spending :))

  • @Liontrack1 actually they do most say jolly nigger bank on the back

  • The frog bank at 1:36 is awesome :)

  • "Acknowledging that it happened and condoning are two different things" Probably the thing most people MISS right there. And who wouldn't be proud of their collection? People often look for things and reasons to hate it seems. If you were a collector of coins, wouldn't you proudly display it for the world to see? Even sell them? Would that make you a capitalist or lover-of-money? No. Just an enthusiast of said genre and history.

  • Hand to mouth......Money hungry .......American capitalism at its greatest.

  • Why are all black faced toys considered Racist????? The word is but they all don't say that word on them.
