A movie like this nowadays would to have: the kids dressed like child models, a rap influenced soundtrack, lots of swear words and ultra 'realistic' CGI - yet it would completely miss out the most important thing of all - a heart and soul...

Joe Dante was definately unique as a film maker. Although his love of Chuck Jones bled over into his movies as they often built towards some crazy cartoon style climax. Some people found that to be too much. Personally I am a huge fan of Explorers and an even bigger fan of Gremlins. I also liked The 'Burbs for some crazy reason. They don't make movies like this anymore...it's too bad because they were a lot of fun.
