A report on how Western Australia implemented a Myki style ticketing system which is more reliable, a fraction of the cost, and could be easily copied and upscaled to meet Melbourne's current and future population needs. Captured from Channel 7 6PM news on Thursday 30th April 2009

  • Myki is rubbish. The government has spent nearly 1 billion dollars on a system which is late and still doesn't work. They now reckon that people that use Myki in regional areas are getting ripped off. We should have just copied Perth's SmartRider system, or stick with our Metcard system. I don't see a problem with Metcard.

    Worst thing ever

  • @AusTrainSpotter1 only to be charged a default fare

  • I just love our Train system. Took one to Joondalup on Tuesday all for just a super-discounted $1.50! yes $1.50 to Joondalup

  • MYKI does not know about the MRT of Singapore and Hongkong. They re same as Perth's.

    BIG FAIL!!!!

  • It's ridiculous that myki still glitches up sometimes even after costing so much and being this late... the scanner takes about 2-3 seconds to read which is enough to hold up a line..and it does not help when there are defunct scanners at Melbourne Central during peak hours.

  • @mildminotaur See sydney...... even though they have great trains, their ticking system is still old

  • West Australians are banned from speaking anything negative about Perth, Western Australia or the government publicly. If anyone speaks up, they are swiftly escorted to the border.

  • Perth has five and a half train lines, the rest of the system are buses. The trains are good, but the buses are hopeless.

As for services connecting? Well, obviously somebody must believe in the tooth fairy.

Highly visible security guards? Not on every train, however on most after 7:30 pm and even they stay away from the noisy drunk agro passengers.

  • 2:02 - dude how long are the carriages?????????

  • @jeppikah i think you and me have the same problem, I usually have to try 3 barriers before one will let me through.
