  • Leaving the "McChurch" was the best thing i have ever done. Joe's restoration is nothing but fiction. There is a life after the LDS and it rocks

  • How can you dislike this video? BECAUSE THE LDS CULT COMMANDS IT, MUST VOTE AGAINST THE TRUTH, MUST PROTECT OUR "TRUE" DOCTRINES, DOES NOT COMPUTE, DANGER WILL ROBINSON

  • Ummm. the F.B.I. Wasn't around at that time.

  • @jhuston7,

Lastly, as to your rejection of the Infancy Gospel of James, I suppose you can be justified in that, but I can also be justified in accepting it. No one knows when the first manuscript of it was written, the earliest one we have available simply dates back to the 3rd century. It's the same case with the Bible, no one has the original manuscripts, it's all copies of copies of copies, etc. The earliest New Testament manuscript available (P52) dates to 125 AD.

  • I did some research on it, and found that the Oxford Dictionary Bible Commentary does indeed state that Mary was 12 when she was married. You can research it for yourself if you wish. Although I am against Mormonism, I don't believe Joseph Smith can truly be criticized of this by someone who accepts Judaism as being the former religion of God, as even the Jews would have allowed such marriages; such a thing cannot be logically denied. Even modern educated Jews will admit this to you.

  • @jhuston7,

No need to get defensive with your last statement, I'm also a disbeliever in Mormonism, I'm not trying to disprove your claims or anything. Yes, the Talmud does recommend that, but nevertheless, the minimum age for marriage of girls was 12, while 13 for boys, which you can verify here:

    jewfaq (.) org/marriage (.) htm

It also verifies your claim, but you left out that the Talmud does indeed allow 12 year old's to get married, despite that it's "recommended" for 16-24 year old's.

Many scholars do not believe Jesus existed at all.

Quoting and apocryphal book written 150 ACE is not really support for your position. Girls in Judaism at age 12 are beginning to make the transition to adulthood. That is the age of Bar Mitzvah. Elsewhere in the Talmud, the proper age for marriage is said to be 16-24. Girls became "betrothed" at a young age (family arrangements) but did not get married until much later. Try to get your facts right.

Sounds like a faith promoting rumor. The Oxford dictionary makes no such claim, and would not because it cannot be substantiated. The average age of marriage based on census documents for Ohio from the period was 19. A step father/widower in Ohio in the 1850s went to jail for marrying his underage daughter because he was able to exert undue influence as her guardian. Horny Joe was guardian of several of the underage girls he "married."

  • @jhuston7,

Even the Oxford dictionary states that Mary conceived Jesus at 12.

Whatever age she was, it certainly is not the orthodox view that she was any older than 16. Although I accept your argument that she may have been unable to conceive at such a young age, that is irrelevant when it comes to being old enough to enter into marriage, especially in her time and in her culture.

I would suggest not disproving Mormonism by using morals that change with time; just show the contradictions. :)

  • @jhuston7,

Well, not that I believe Mormonism, but many scholars do indeed believe Mary to had been only 14-15 at the age of conceiving Jesus. In fact, a "Lost Gospel" called the Infancy Gospel of James 8:2 and 9:11 tell the story of Mary being married to Joseph when she was only twelve, while he was 90; however, it says that Mary did not conceive Jesus until 16. Such a concept would be fitting in such a culture, as girl's are considered women at the age of 12 in Judaism.
