It's W.G. Snuffy Walden who composed, and he won an Emmy for this. He was also responsible for scoring a ton of other shows...thirtysomething, Roseanne, Friday Night Lights. West Wing (and a couple of other TV ones of his) are on an album called of his called "Music by". Think it's still around and on iTunes.
