Shall the meek inherit the Earth? Do we need an updated ecological Sermon on the Mount for the coming decades of this century? Is Richard Heinberg's Sermon on the Collapse the most likely or recommendable vision to strive for us in order to save the civilization and to avoid causing any additional pain to our fellow men and living creatures?

SERMON ON THE COLLAPSE

Blessed are those
who depend least
on modern technology,
for they have not forgotten
how to take care of themselves.
Blessed are they
whose culture is communitarian
and not individualist
for they will share and prosper.
Blessed are they
who have no exploitable natural resources
for no one will bother them.
Blessed are those
who know how to grow food
for they will eat and feed others.

From Powerdown by Richard Heinberg (New Society Publishers 2004, p. 153)

ROMAHDUSSAARNA (in Finnish)
Autuaita ovat ne,
jotka ovat vähiten riippuvaisia
modernista teknologiasta,
sillä he eivät ole unohtaneet sitä,
kuinka pitää toisistaan huolta.
Autuaita ovat ne,
joiden kulttuuri on yhteisöllinen
eikä yksilökeskeinen,
sillä he jakavat
ja menestyvät.
Autuaita ovat ne,
joilla ei ole riistettäväksi
kelpaavia luonnonvaroja,
sillä kukaan ei heitä vaivaa.
Autuaita ovat ne,
jotka osaavat ruoan
kasvattamisen taidon,
sillä he saavat syödäkseen
ja ruokkivat muitakin.

  • beautiful, i totally agree with it. amazing. great job.

  • Thank you for your kind comment! I also hope that in the future, finally, it will be the meek, simple and sensitive kind of people with silent old wisdom in their heart who inherit the earth, whatever of it is left for us and other species suitable for inhabiting as the century progresses and as the future already now looks more grim and uncertain than ever before in the history of mankind.

  • This video is art! :)

  • I'm glad to hear you enjoyed watching this! In addition to the excellent and warmly recommended book PowerDown by Richard Heinberg and his profoundly hitting environmentally futurist and inspirational version of the Bible's Sermon on the Mount, I owe my gratitude also to a bunch of my friends who kindly lended me to use their beautiful photographs in this video.

  • loved it.

  • I hope the message in this video could be of hope and inspiration for all who strive for a better, a more sustainable and humane future for all species and members of Planet Earth.

  • An important message from Richard Heinberg -- it is both sobering and yet inspirational. You've done a fine job narrating in English, and bringing beautiful images to it. Thanks for this creative expression, and your obvious love for this earth.
