I briefly interviewed Dunlap and Jackie Broyles (a former presidential candidate himself) of Red State Update on Saturday at the Obama and McCain forum at Saddleback Church in Orange County, CA. All audience members at the event were handpicked supporters, and answers of both candidates were scripted ahead of time. The outright exclusion of third-party and independent candidates can only be interpreted as an endorsement of both Obama and McCain by the church.

As a way to bypass the bipartisan Commission on Presidential Debates, which has the illegitimate power to exclude any presidential candidate who isn't a Democrat or Republican, Jackie and Dunlap suggested we hold our own debate and even offered to moderate it for us. They also add that past presidential hopefuls who were unfairly taken out of the running by big business could be invited as well. What do you think?

  • I'm still thinking of who to vote for, in between Nader and McKinney. Both of their actions and records are the best of all the candidates, I wonder if Nader has more support than McKinney... I'll probably vote for McKinney.

I know you probably won't respond to my comment ManilaRyce, but I'd like to hear your thoughts.

  • @Lucidtomr

That's a hard decision I too was faced with. I personally chose to endorse Nader, though I support McKinney as well. He's polling higher (at about 6%-8%) and doesn't represent any particular organization. I find it a bit unsettling that McKinney's run is being used primarily to grow the Green Party. As a believer in direct democracy, I believe all political parties are part of the problem. I like that the Nader campaign can focus on issues without worrying about labels.

  • I'll tell you what- I'LL debate the RED STATE BOYS if they can't moderate a debate w/ Nader, et all.

    Whaddya say?

  • @davisfleetwood

    I want in on that.

  • The 1992 Presidential Debates with Ross Perot were not dull. His warnings have now come true. Replace John McCain with Ron Paul. Add Ralph Nader and Cynthia McKinney. Barack Obama must earn his victory, not win by default.

  • I support everyone on your list.

  • You guys are pretty funny.

  • I don't want to support Obama but since Nadar has become completely shut out from politics thanks to the GOP and Dems but I guess Obama would be a bit better then McCain atlest I think he could try to fix something with our economy =/

  • Right on, Keep up the Fire ! Pro Patria doughboy

  • It's now or never. We are the only ones who can make this happen. Bring it on!

  • Obama 08!

  • There is no doubt an Obama presidency will be more like a Bill Clinton presidency than the horrendous Bush presidency we've survived. Nader should have been in the debates, but they always screw him. I have to support Obama because Nader has no chance. And I can't stomach another 4-years under Republicans.
