Pretty sure that's Josh (Deakin). I guess during the sound check at the Guggenheim.

The sequel to his "I start playing a game... in, like, the game" from Mouth Wooed Her. :P

Haha... there are a lot of bands playing these days though. I think the fact is that AC have a wide variety of influences and styles. They stick out in some ways from other bands in "indie rock" but I'd say they'd stick out just as much within "classic rock" or "psychedelic rock".

I didn't say they're above the indie music scene so much as just not part of it in a musical sense. Like they're certainly revered by indie sources and a large part of their fanbase are indie music fans, but they're closer to Pink Floyd or The Grateful Dead, than say most of the bands playing these days.

Indie music these days is usually very chord-based rock with maybe piano elements. Animal Collective stand out on more of a "classic rock" type of level. At least they do for me.

I think of AC as being psychedelic music too... that doesn't bring them out or above the indie music scene though.

I forgot to mention that Deakin in a recent interview about Centipede Hz described their music as being "psychedelic". And Avey Tare in an earlier one said he looks to the Grateful Dead as a sort of model.
